Question...............Why are you doing this?
Answer...............I heard someone say they would vote for "none of the above" if it was an option, and i then found out that it was illegal to call a party "none of the above", so i decided that it would be an interesting and fun experiment, to change my name by deed poll to "zero none of the above" and stand as an independant candidate.
i am not that interested in politics and i had never stood in an any sort of election before, but i thought why not, after all theres a first time for everything.
i chose the surname "Zero" because it places me at the bottom of the ballot paper, and the christian names of "none of the above" and having a single policy "to resign immediately if elected" mean i am effectively a none of the above option in the truest sense of the words
Question...........What's the point of a “none of the above” box on the ballot paper?
Answer.........if people want to vote for any of the other parties or candidates then they should do so, if they don't they should vote for me
If “None Of The Above” gets the most votes in a constituency, then all the candidates and parties that stood in that constituency, will know that they have been rejected.
They are then faced with a choice.
They can either stand, in the bye election, with the same policies, and face certain rejection again
Or they can change.
Question...........Why not just stay at home, if you don't want to vote for anyone?
Answer..............the statement that “40% of the electorate didn't vote” is usually read as "40% of the electorate is apathetic" and is nowhere near as powerful as the statement that “40% of the electorate voted for none of the above”
Question.........What policies would "Zero" like to see being offered by the candidates and parties instead?
Answer...........its not for me to advice the other parties on policy, i just want to offer the electorate the right to say no to what those parties are currently offering
Also, my personal political views are irrelevant because I am effectively acting as a none of the above box on the ballot paper.
however, for whats its worth, I personally believe in the unlimited potential of every person, I believe in the power of the individual to change things and I believe in dialogue
If "Zero None Of The Above" gets the most votes, then the rejected parties and candidates will have to engage the UK Electorate in dialogue to find out what the UK Electorate want from those parties, candidates and the political sytem as a whole
Question...............Isn't it just a waste of taxpayers money?
Answer............Democracy Is Priceless
Question.............So are you asking people to waste their vote?
Answer...........The only wasted vote, is a vote that isn't used
Question...............If you are succesful, there will be no government to run the country, what's the point of that?
Answer.........For there to be no goverment, "None Of The Above" would have to win in every constituency. If that did happen, not only would the civil service be more than capable of running the country in the interim, pending the following bye elections, but what a damning indictment that would be, from the UK voting general public, about the current political system and what the current parties are offering.
Question..............Don't you think this is just a negative way of campaigning?
Answer............A zero none of the above box is a positive step forward because it forces the parties to give reasons why we should vote for them, instead of giving reasons why we shouldn't vote for one of their opponents......
